What is hypnotherapy used for?
Hypnotherapy can help with a wide range of issues, including stress, anxiety, unwanted habits, confidence, phobias, chronic pain and more. It works by guiding you into a calm, focused state where your subconscious mind becomes more open to positive change.
What does solution-focused mean?
Solution‑focused hypnotherapy combines modern talking therapy with hypnosis to help you move toward your preferred future. Instead of analysing problems, we focus on strengths, resources, and practical steps that support lasting change.
Is hypnotherapy safe?
Yes. Hypnotherapy is a gentle, evidence‑based approach that works with your natural brain states. You remain in control at all times, and you can stop or pause the session whenever you choose.
How long is a session?
A hypnotherapy session lasts around 50 minutes. You should allow up to an hour to give space for discussion and decompression without feeling rushed. Smoking and vaping cessation is a single 2‑hour session.
What does hypnosis feel like?
Most people describe trance as feeling calm, dreamy, floaty, or deeply relaxed. You stay awake, aware, and fully in control the whole time. You can move, speak, or open your eyes whenever you want. It’s similar to daydreaming or getting absorbed in a good book — your mind becomes focused, and change feels easier.
How many sessions are needed?
This depends on your goals and will be discussed at your consultation. As a guide: simple phobias usually require around 4 sessions, and anxiety‑related issues typically take 6–12 sessions. Smoking and vaping cessation is a one‑off 2‑hour session.
Will you put me under or take control of my mind?
No — and that’s a good thing. Clinical hypnotherapy isn’t something done to you. It’s a collaborative process where you stay in charge. You won’t be unconscious or “under”; you’ll be relaxed and aware, working with me to create the changes you want.
Why doesn’t hypnotherapy look like what I’ve seen on TV?
Stage hypnosis is entertainment. It’s designed to look dramatic and theatrical. Clinical hypnotherapy is completely different — you don’t lose control or fall asleep. You stay aware and engaged, because real therapeutic change happens when your mind is focused, not switched off.
What if I can’t relax, will it not work?
Yes. Hypnotherapy doesn’t rely on perfect calm — it works as long as you’re willing to engage. A busy mind is completely normal and you can still enter a focused, effective trance.
Yes. You’ll hear everything I say and you’ll remember the session. Some people drift in and out of the words or feel dreamy and floaty afterwards, but you remain fully aware throughout.
